Playing with Baroque

bohcard.jpg

I thought this color combo might be pretty so I went for it. Groovy Gauva, Bayou Blue and Chocolate Chip. I was hording the ribbon and figured it was time to use some. Doesn’t do any good in a drawer now does it?!

Gotta finish my swaps for tonight, so I will post more tomorrow.

WOWZA!

What an incredible experience convention was. I learned so much, I feel like info was leaking out of my ears. The classes were great, the display boards were amazing, but most of all Shelli Gardner’s speech on the first day was what hit me the most. The theme this year was “Dream Big” and in a nut shell, Shelli made us all feel that we are all worthy of big dreams. Why dream little when you can dream BIG! Making your  dreams come true is not always easy and that storm clouds often form over us, but hold your umbrella proudly and you can make your dream come true, no matter what it is.  Each speaker at convention told us what their big dream was and they ranged from losing weight to being able to sing on Broadway. Everyone’s dream are unique and different just like us. Shelli also talked about the “Gratitude Attitude”. Be thankful for who you are and what you do have. It is natural for us to think negative about ourself, so we need to remember everyday that we can do anything.  I cried at the end of this speech, because life is rough and my family has gone through A LOT over the last 5 years between my husbands health, my father in law passing away, losing a baby and now unemployment. I have been feeling sorry for my family and I have had the “It’s not fair” attitude , but hearing Shelli talk I realized I need to be grateful. I do have a family whom I love dearly and things could be so much worse. I just need to dream big and hold a huge umbrella over my family , we can weather the storms together and we will be better off in the end.

OK time for some pictures! I was so touched by Shelli’s speech that I came home on Friday night and made her this card. She loves antique and Victorian styles, so this is what I came up with. It took me two hours to make this card, but I am satisfied with the results. Of course everything I used on this card was made with SU products.  The new Pretties Kit is fabulous!!! Lisa, my Stampin’ UP! Mom gave me a bunch of pieces to play with and I NEED more! You can do so many things with this kit and just like the Hodge Podge Kit it has tons of pieces at a very reasonable price. Anyway, Shelli had been taking pictures during the lunch hours so I knew that I could give this card to her at this time on Saturday (the last day). I sat down and literally scarfed my lunch and ran over to the line. Of course as luck would have it, they closed the line right in front of me and I couldn’t beg the man enough to let me in. So, I asked him nicely to make sure that he gave my card to Shelli and he said he would. Being that time of the month ” my cry week” as Al would say, I walked off to the bathroom crying from disappointment. I really wanted to see the look on Shelli’s face when I handed her this card, but trying to think positively I brushed the tears away and thought it wasn’t meant to be today… some other day. I went back to my table and of course my loving SU family was there for me and helped me to think of something on a better note, chocolate!  ;)

This second picture is of three generations in my Stampin’ UP! group. From left to right, Connie, Kim, Jenni, Lisa and myself. Connie is my “SU Grandma”, which I am sure she loves to hear and of course Lisa is my “Mom”, Kim and Jenni are my “Sisters”.

I am now looking forward to my next event. I am participating in a Split Coast Stampers swap and dinner on Tuesday night. I am signed up to swap with 45 other ladies who are addicted to SCS like me. This should be a blast and I hope to take some pictures there as well. Guess I need to get going on those swaps now since only half of them are stamped. Of course they still need to be colored and spiked with dazzling diamonds! I will get a picture of those posted most likely Wednesday.

If you made it through this whole post then I thank you for listening to me go on and on! This was such a wonderful experience for me and I appreciate you letting me share it with you.

BIG hugs!

6 more days

Wow only 6 more days till the start of Covention! I just have a quick post today, because I have to work a double shift today and try to get more swaps done. I am patiently waiting for my order to come, so that I have some new stamps to make swaps with. I am so completely bummed that the scalloped punch is back ordered…argh!!! I really wanted to play with that. Luckily my friend, Lisa has it so maybe I can borrow it a bit and go punch crazy.

mhsfrnt.jpgThis first picture is what I will be wearing on Thursday during convention. This is the stamping group I belong to here in Denver. The one thing we have in common is that we are SU demos.  We have a ton of fun and learn so much from each other. So if you go to convention don’t be surprised if you see a few of us with our “Stamping with ALTITUDE” shirts on.

mhsback.jpg

The third picture is what I will be wearing with my Mama Lisa (upline) and my three SU sisters. We made these to wear for the PJ party on Wednesday night.  We used craft ink to sponge on everything, but it just isn’t popping. Any suggestions on a better solution to make this really stand out? This is the backside of the shirt and the letters are C D T. If you see me ask me what it stands for!

Have a super day. I may not post anything for the next few days so that I can concentrate on my swaps and other homely matters. Have a great weekend!!

Captain Crafter’s Challenge #19

cc19.jpg

I complained to the Captain that this challenge wasn’t hard enough. No colors, no accessories… just the sketch. Once again, he has me bowing “I am not worthy” LOL! I really like how this turned out. I used a few more layers then what the sketch shows, but I wanted it to pop. Thanks Captain Crafter for another great challenge and thank you Carrie (the Artistic Avenger) who inspired him. You guys make a great dynamic duo! :)

I was so happy to stop and do the challenge tonight, because I have been working ALL day on swaps! The SU convention Session 1 count down has begun…8 more days… aaahhhh! I signed up for a special 3D swap through my upline and thank goodness we only have to make 16 items. Of course when I started last night on the sample I thought “Oh I will just make a few more to swap with anyone else who may have some 3D items during convention”. HELLO, I am insane! Here is a sneak peak at the pile I have been working on ALL DAY, and I am only have done with them! I am letting you take a little peak at the final product in the right hand corner, don’t want to give too much away. I am pooped! I think I have stampers arm…LOL!

“u” cards

ucards.jpg

I had a request from my friend Kris, to make a “U” suck card at my stamp camp. This is what I came up with for my class last Friday night. This card always gets a good laugh! I made a “thank U” card as well and put the whole set out so that people could choose a different sentiment if they wanted.

I am making swaps like crazy for convention. Gee I only need about 200 more card fronts. I started my 3d wow swaps last night and it may take me a while. So, the house will more then likely be a mess for the next few days while I try to get some of these done. Cleaning can always wait..ha ha!

Have a super day!

Oh and Carrie its just you and me swapping…how about a 3D item??? :)

A splendid idea…

I was working on my daily routine of checking email, going through my list of blogs and checking out what is new on SCS. I came across Melissa,  kulissa (SCS name) from  Stamping Through The Tulips (her blog). Melissa is CASEing a card from the new catalog, to show how useful the Stampin’ UP! Idea and Catalog Book is for great ideas.  I thought this was a wonderful idea, since all my ladies will be receiving a catalog from me at my class tomorrow night. So I went through the catty again for the millionth time and found a card that would be easy enough to change up the stamps and would would work for a large group of people. I am not one to use CASE’d cards for my workshops. I enjoy coming up with something original even though it sometimes takes hours. I really thought this was a good idea though and it worked out perfect that it is my first camp of the new SU year and everyone will have a hot catty in their hands to not only check out the new products, but all of the great ideas! Instead of using a button, because I don’t have enough of the same color on hand,  like they did in the catty I decided to make a round tag with another stamp and the round punches. What do you think?

sucase118.jpg

Here’s the recipe:

CASE’d from the card on page 118 of the 2007-2008 Fall/ Winter Catalog and Idea Book

Stamps: Its Your Birthday, All In A Row, Tagger’s Dozen, Spot On jumbo wheel (can’t tell in the picture, but it is rolled on the base of the card with Versa Mark)

Ink: Real Red, Versa Mark, Pumpkin Pie, Wild Wasabi

Card Stock: Real REd, Whisper White, Gable Green, So Saffron, Ballet Blue

Accessories: 1 1/4″ & 1 3/8″ circle punches, Spiral Punch

All products used are by Stampin’ UP!

Don’t forget all of you SU demo bloggers to check out my post from yesterday and sign up to swap at Convention Session 1. Here is the list so far:

1. Pam (yeah thats me)

2. Carrie- Artistic Avenger

Lets Monkey Around

monkeysampler.jpg

Posting this a little earlier..yikes two in one day! Have some things going on tomorrow morning so I thought I would just go ahead and get this put out now while I have time. :)

Well first off I wanted to offer up a swap for all of us bloggers that are going to SU Convention session 1. If you are interested and have a blog send me a comment and I will put you on the list to swap. I am thinking the best time for us to swap will be sometime before the PJ party on Wednesday night. I will have to figure out a specific time and place and let you know. I am open for suggestions as to a theme if any. Of course you must use SU products and lets try to use at least two layers, everything else is up to you. I will close the sign up on Sunday, July 15th at 10PM MST. I will then post a list of who will be swapping so that you can have a head count and start making your swaps. I am totally open to any suggestions you may have, so leave me a comment and I will get back to you!

On to the Monkey card…

I needed to come up with a card for my class this Friday and I do believe I am going to use this one. Since SU has put the Print Designer Paper in the new catty I will let everyone pick their own color and pattern from the sampler pads I have left. This way everyone can get the color that they want and they can also choose which stamp they want from the You’re Neat set. I must say that “Happy Everything” is my absolute favorite sentiment set. The poor wood blocks are black, because I have used them so much. It just fits with all kinds of themes and I love it!!

Here is the recipe:

Stamps: You’re Neat, Happy Everything

Ink: Basic Black and SU markers

Paper: Print Designer Sample pad in Almost Amethyst, Whisper White, Basic Black

Accessories: Word Window Punch, spiral Punch, Soft Subtle Brads.

All products used are by Stampin” UP!

Captain Crafter’s Challenge #18

cc18.jpg

I have a couple of things to add here today. Please read through to the end, thanks!

First there are a bunch of sketch challengers on the web, but for some reason I have got myself hooked on Captain Crafter’s weekly challenges. As soon as I saw this one I jumped up and grabbed my supplies. The hardest part??? What stamps should I use, of course. So, I grabbed what was already laying out, Baroque Motifs and I think it worked out just fine. This is the challenge rules as written by Mr. CC himself:

“Aside from the sketch you will have to use Cool Caribbean or Soft Sky, Certainly Celery, More Mustard, Basic Black, and any neutral card stock you like. If you don’t have a particular colour just use one that is similar. Also, for bonus points try to use brads, ribbon and a paper piercer.”

Well, I think I used all of them…does this mean I get extra brownie points?? LOL! I had a lot of fun with this and couldn’t wait to share with you all.

Have a super day and thanks once again to Captain Crafter (of course in that echoing comic book voice)

Here’s the recipe:

Stamps: Baroque Motifs

Ink: Whisper White Craft

Card Stock: Natural White, Basic Black, More Mustard, Cool Caribbean, Certainly Celery

Accessories: Certainly Celery, Orchid Opulence, More Mustard Grosgrain ribbons, Piercing tool, Black SU brad

All products used are by Stampin’ UP!

Secondly PLEASE check out this link, Breast Cancer Awareness and sign the petition to make a difference!  I did it!
