Oh how I love this bag

fancypantsbag.jpg

UPDATE: I am officially going to be teaching a class on how to make this bag…whoot!! Sometime in either June or July, not sure yet. YEAH!!

I made another one of my altered “Beate one sheet box” bags. This time I used Fancy Pants paper and I am hoping that I will be able to teach how to make this at my new favorite Scrapbook store, Scrapbook Destination. This store just opened and is really put together well . They have a lot of fun things that the “big guys” don’t have which makes it so fun and dangerous. I talked with the owner and showed her my brown and pink bag and she asked me to get her a sample using the Fancy Pants paper and voila…here it is. What do you think? It takes exactly one sheet of 12 x12 to do this bag and the little matching note card. I am hoping to get over to the store today to show them….happy dance!! I would so love to be on a design team and this place would be awesome to work for.

I am still here…

kathyinvite.jpg

I am trying to recover from the family being home over the long weekend. My house is a disaster! I am also trying to get b’day invites done and out for my friend Kathy which is what this card is today. I blurred out the info though, obviously. I still need to make teacher gifts and cards since Friday is the last day of school. Aaaah I need more time! So hopefully I will have something more significant to post tomorrow or Friday.

Little Yellow Kitty

urneatyellow.jpg

I had origionally got the set “You’re Neat” because I thought it would make really cute simple cards. While I like cards with lots and lots of bling, I also like very simple cards. I go back and forth between styles and right now I am in that “more” phase I guess. Anna, from Sassy and Sweet Notes said she has been going through the same thing only she is at the less is more phase. Anna, let me know when you are ready to switch…  :) If you haven’t been over to Anna’s site you should really take a look. She has such great style and not only does she make cards, she sews up some incredible bags and she is a fantasic photographer! Anna you are my inspiration hero! ;)

I did use my Marvy Scalloped square punch to created the rectangle. I covered the seam with my ribbon. Tricky eh! Not really… I got the idea from Amy, another wonderful paper crafts artist. Anywhoo, I have been trying to figure out how to use this little kitty and the other two fun animals in the set when I spotted my SU May sampler pack sitting near. The tiny floral pattern goes well or at least I think it does with the small cat. That is all it took and off I went.

Today and tomorrow I am just plain off running. Yesterday was field day for Corbin, today Ty has a speech at school that I am going to watch and then the boys have “Arts Festival” at school tonight that we will be back for. Then tomorrow is Ty’s field day. The fun never ends in May with the end of the school year fast approaching.

Have a good one!

Girls & Their Bags

beatebag.jpg

I love fun purses, although I hate to carry them. I have been trying to invent a bag made out of one sheet of 8 1/2″ x 11 and to tell you the truth I  am just not the engineering type. I came across Beate’s blog and she made exactly what I wanted. Beate’s One Sheet Box is just so stinking easy and cute! I altered mine to look more like a purse. I would totally love one of these as a gift filled with chocolate! What more could a girl want, maybe some  matching shoes too ;)

Here is the recipe:

Cardstock: *Rose Red, *Chocolate Chip

Ink: White Souffle pen, *Chocolate Chip

Stamps: *Doodle This

Accessories: *Petwer brads, Making Memories Watercolor Brite Circle Brad, *Large Corner Rounder Punch, *Word Window Punch

My so called tutorial on mini sliders

Well this is my attempt to explain how to make a mini slider. So here we go…

steponeminislider.jpg

This is what you will need: Double sided tape, foam tape or dimensionals, piece of plastic shopping bag,  card stock and scissors
step2minislider.jpg

Step one: Cut a piece of card stock that will hold your sliding mechanism. The card I made yesterday was a circle so I cut two of the same size circle and trimmed the top and bottom to give a flat surface. On this example I am using a square.

Take a strip of plastic shopping bag and place it at the front top of your square. Now wrap  the plastic down and around the back so that it comes over the top of your square and just overlaps on the top.

step3finalslider.jpg

Step 3:

Take a strip of plastic shopping bag and place it at the front top of your square making sure to match the top of the strip to the top of the card stock. Now wrap  the plastic down and around the back so that it comes over the top place a piece of tape only on the plastic so that when you overlap the plastic it will stick to itself and not the cardstock.

step4minislider.jpg

Step 4:

Now take a piece of card stock that is narrow enough so that you can put a strip of either foam tape or dimensionals along each side for a guide (see image below). Match the tab (this tab will be pulled down) to the top of your square. Place a very small amount of tape onto the plastic bag at the very top and attach the tab to it. If your tape is too long it will not let your tab pull down very far.

step5minislider.jpg

Step 6:step6minislider.jpg

Now flip your mechanism over so that the seam and taped purple piece are still at the top of your work space. This time put a very small piece of tape (making sure not to get any on the white card stock) on to the bottom of this side. Match the bottom of your tab to the bottom of the plastic (where the tape is) and adhere.

step7minislider.jpg

Step 7:

Now when you flip the mechanism back over if you pull down on the purple side your tabs will move. The purple goes down and the green goes up.

step8minislider.jpg

Step 8:

Next trim the excess off of your tabs and decorate. You will need enough of the tab to stick out so that you can pull on it when it is sandwiched between your card base and the top decorative piece. Now put your foam tape or dimensionals along the sides and adhere your card directly or on to a decorative piece which will be added on to your card later. Flip over and repeat with foam tape. Personally I like dimensionals better, because they are thinner then foam tape. That is what I used on my card in yesterdays post.

step9minislider.jpg

Last step

step10minislider.jpg

Step 10:

Add your decorative layer to the top. This (yellow piece) will be showing on top of the card and will be stamped on. Then attach the whole mechanism to your card front. This picture shows the tabs being pulled out once more.

Hope that wasn’t too completely confusing. I hope the different colors help. This tutorial stuff is not easy. Thank goodness for SCS and if you don’t subscribe you really should! I do and I sure learn a lot from it.

Now…its your turn to try  :)

Happy Happy Joy Joy!

minislider.jpg

I can’t even explain how excited I am about this card. I already knew how to make a slider card, but didn’t think to try a smaller version. Tuesday night at my MHS meeting the lady who puts the meetings together (Connie is just brilliant!!) showed us how she made a card with just a little slider mechanism. So I tried it and actually did it a little different, but you get the same effect. I didn’t have time to take pictures while I was making this card, but I will try to do that some time today or tonight, so I can show you tomorrow step by step. I see lots and lots of sliders in my future!!

minislider3.jpg

I completely forgot I had bought SU’s Simply Sent kit called Friendship Shapes when it was in the winter mini catalog. I picked that one since it was going to be carried into the Spring Mini as well. So not only did I have a new set to open up and play with but a new version of an old technique. Happy happy joy joy! Can you tell I am amused easily??

Here is the recipe:

Stamps: Friendship Shapes, Tiny Talk

Cardstock: Summer Sun, Whisper White, Pink Passion

Ink: Pink Passion, Bashful Blue, Cert. Celery, Only Orange, YoYo Yellow, white gel pen

Accessories: Celery grosgrain, bashful blue brad, SU dimensionals

*Scalloped and Circle punches are Marvy Uchida

Thanks for looking!

The most popular one of all…

doodlethisbday1.jpg

Another new header, my DH didn’t like the one I had yesterday, so I played a little more and this is what I have come up with. What do you think?? Not too harsh, I think I like it better too. Thanks Al! ;)

Everyone in my classes gets excited about these slider cards, so I have been making what seems like a lot lately. They are fun and once you get the hang of them they are really easy. You can find the tutorial on SCS under resources, projects and slider card. I used ink pads to load up my blender pen to color in the flowers. This gave it more of a watercolored look. I really like how it turned out and now that I really have the hang of it I am going to try another version, but you will have to wait till tomorrow to see that one..he he

Have a super day!!

The recipe for this card is (all SU products):

Cardstock: Rose Red, Bashful Blue, Whisper White

Ink: Chocolate Chip, Rose Red, Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue, Blender Pen

Stamps: Doodle This & Happy Everything

Accessories:Chocolate and Celery grosgrain, Large corner rounder punch, 1 1/4″ circle punch

A Fresh Start

 doodlethisswap.jpg

I have made some changes in my life after much thought and I am ready for a fresh new start. So what a better way to start out my blog week then to have a fresh new header. I wish I was computer savvy so that I could design my own.  I do like this green, so we will run with this for a while until I get really creative.

I made this card for a swap tonight. The kids got me some new pajama sets for Mother’s day and one of the shorts had a really pretty orchid and orange floral print on them. I looked at them and said “I just thought of a card”. Of course I got some weird looks, but it inspired me to make this card. Lots of things inspire me, but fabric is huge for me. Everything used on this card is SU except the staple :)

Here is the recipe:

Cardstock: Chocolate Chip, Blush Blossom, Pumpkin Pie
Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Orchid Opulence, Certainly Celery
Stamps: Sweet Shapes, Doodle This
Accessories: Apple Green Grosgrain, Eggplant Grosgrain,
Spiral Punch,
Simplicity Corner Slot punch, staple

Have a super day!!
